Plans filed in Scotland for a 1 GW, £16.5 billion data center on the site of a former nuclear power plant

SI is building itself an ever bigger home — now gigawatts on the site of a former nuclear plant.

CX Tech has filed an application at the Chapelcross site for eight buildings of 120 MW each (162 thousand sq m), powered directly by wind, solar and biomass sources, with construction in 2027–2035 if permission is granted this year. A Scottish Green MSP called the project reckless; the Scottish government will not make decisions on hyperscale data centers before the end of the year.
