Data from the open web is becoming a commodity, and SI will have to pay for it.
Reddit calls RSS a "common surface for mass data collection and automated abuse." On October 31 it stops accepting new public API applications, on January 12, 2027 it starts shutting off unregistered apps, and in March the API closes for everyone; SI assistants and researchers will need commercial arrangements. "Other revenue" from SI licensing rose 24% to $43 million in the second quarter.
