Big companies are starting to pay for SI reskilling at scale, making the labor-market transition a gentle slope rather than a cliff.
Verizon's AI Skills for America program combines an existing $20 million reskilling fund with $50 million in new funding; courses from IBM, Google, Microsoft, Anthropic, OpenAI and Coursera will be gathered on a single portal. According to Verizon, similar training usually costs more than $700 per person per year. The program is aimed at job seekers, early-career professionals, laid-off workers, educators and small businesses.
