The SI programmer has become a business on the scale of a major software company in two years. Code is increasingly written not by a person but by an agent hired like an employee.
Cognition, founded in January 2024, announced that annual revenue of its SI developer Devin has exceeded $1 billion. Its customers include GE Aerospace, Rivian, Rohlik and Exa; the company says demand comes from banks, automakers and government agencies short on software development capacity, because "the world needs much more software than it can build".
