Microsoft relaunches Copilot for work: Home and Code tabs for non-programmers and an always-on Autopilot agent

Writing programs and keeping an agent that works nonstop will now be possible not only for developers but for any office worker. The market is splitting: some fight for the personal SI assistant, Microsoft for the desktop.
The new app combines chat, coding and agents: Home merges Copilot Chat with the Cowork agent and lets you edit Word and Excel files right in the window; Code, built on GitHub Copilot technology, lets ordinary employees build dashboards and automations with words; Autopilot (formerly Scout) is a persistent agent that keeps working while the person is away. Home and Code are coming to the Frontier early access program in the coming weeks, and Autopilot to a closed preview in late September. This is the final step in the merger of consumer and work Copilot that began in August: Microsoft is effectively leaving the race for personal chatbots and betting on the office, where it has more than 30 million paid seats.
