One-month-old startup from DeepMind's Genie creators is raising a $700 million seed round at a $3.7 billion valuation

Investors are paying billions for teams that can simulate the world — robots will learn in virtual reality faster than in the real one.

The UK-based Emulate was founded by Jack Parker-Holder, Matthew McGill and Philip Ball, the authors of the Genie "world models" that generate interactive 3D environments from a prompt; the company was registered in August. The round is co-led by Index Ventures and Lightspeed. Emulate is building models that predict real-world physics so that robots can run thousands of simulations before going into the real world. This is already the third major DeepMind spin-off in a year, after Ineffable Intelligence and Recursive Superintelligence.
