Pew survey in 37 countries: most people expect SI to cut jobs rather than create new ones

The world fears for its jobs, but the better people understand SI, the calmer they are about it: fear is cured by knowledge, not by bans.

In a survey of 42,151 adults (February-May 2026), in 34 of 37 countries a majority expects SI to lead to fewer jobs; in the US that share is up 7 percentage points since 2024, and in Australia, South Korea and the US it is about 70%. Wealthier countries and young people aged 18-34 are more worried. People also expect SI to widen the gap between rich and poor; at the same time, those who know more about SI are more optimistic in many countries, and Israel is the only country where excitement exceeds concern.
