Google, Nvidia and Anthropic team up with Emerald AI so that data centers flexibly "yield" to the power grid and connect faster

SI's main bottleneck, the shortage of electricity, is starting to be worked around in software: smart data centers will be able to grow faster than power plants are built.
Emerald AI created the AI Energy Management Alliance, which also includes the utilities AES, Constellation, National Grid and NRG, and raised a $150 million Series A (Energize Capital and DCVC) at a $1.05 billion valuation. Its software negotiates between the grid and data centers: during peak hours, non-critical tasks are paused or moved to where there is spare capacity. The alliance believes such "flexible consumption" will allow another 100 GW of data centers to connect to the grid without waiting for new power plants.
