Figure robot cleans 30 unfamiliar homes for the first time with no additional training

A home robot that walks into a stranger's apartment and starts cleaning right away is a step from lab demos to a helper robot in every home.

The new version of the control model, Helix 2.5, entered 30 homes in the Bay Area that it had never seen and immediately performed three tasks: pick up 13-15 toys in the living room, fold towels and make the bed. The key is pretraining on data about human behavior (Index): with it the success rate is 56% versus 9% for a model trained from scratch, and half as much data is needed for adaptation. Figure speaks of a predictable scaling law for transferring skills from humans to the robot; Index generates about 35 minutes of human data per second, and $3.5 billion has been allocated for Helix compute.
