UAE to redesign giant 5 GW SI campus: a network instead of a single complex, partly underground and in the mountains

SI data centers have become strategic assets on a par with military bases: they are being hidden underground and covered by air defenses, because computing power is now worth protecting.

According to Reuters, after Iranian strikes on infrastructure in the region, the UAE is revising the 5 GW UAE-US SI campus project: instead of a 26 sq km site in Abu Dhabi, there will likely be a network of data centers across the country. Air defenses against drones and missiles, underground halls and placing the most sensitive data, including military data, inside mountains are being discussed. The first 200 MW phase of Stargate UAE is still set to launch in 2026; the project's partners are G42, OpenAI, Oracle, SoftBank, Nvidia and Cisco.
