OpenAI depends less and less on other people's hardware and is building its own chips with the largest manufacturers — which means there will eventually be more capacity for SI.
OpenAI Korea head Harrison Kim told a press conference in Seoul that joint research and production of next-generation chips is the most advanced area of cooperation with Samsung, but gave no details; Samsung declined to comment. Samsung is one of the world's largest ChatGPT deployments, and the number of ChatGPT Enterprise users at South Korean companies grew about 28-fold over the year by the end of August. In June OpenAI already showed its first own chip, Jalapeno, made with Broadcom on TSMC capacity.
