Abu Dhabi releases K2 Horizon, six fully open models, from watches to servers

Prepared by Sintelligent with the help of SI. Publication time restored from the build log. . Updated: .

A fully open model means not only being able to download and run it but also to repeat the training from scratch. The more such "recipes" are openly available, the less frontier SI depends on a handful of closed labs.

The Institute of Foundation Models (IFM), created by MBZUAI university, released a lineup of six models from 0.9 to 375 billion parameters: the smallest are designed for watches and glasses, 3.7B and 7B for phones, 32B and the sparse 36B-A4B for local servers, and 375B-A23B for enterprise tasks. Everything is open: weights and code under Apache 2.0, intermediate checkpoints, configurations and training logs, and training data where licenses allow. According to IFM, the 0.9B, 3.7B and 7B models set a new record for their sizes.
