Nvidia launches DLSS 5: a neural network fills in photorealistic lighting and materials in games

Prepared by Sintelligent with the help of SI. Publication time restored from the build log. . Updated: .

More and more of what we see on screen is not computed but filled in by SI, bringing cinema-grade graphics to home computers.

The 3D-Guided Neural Rendering technology uses the game engine's geometry, lighting and motion vectors so that SI generates lighting and material details that developers previously gave up for performance. The first game is NBA 2K27 on RTX 50 graphics cards and in GeForce NOW Ultimate; on an RTX 5090 at 4K with ray tracing it delivers up to 370 frames per second.
